eBay has hired two executives to head marketing and to recruit retail businesses in the UK. Tanya Lawler is Vice President of UK Trading, and Amanda Metcalfe is UK and Republic of Ireland Marketing Director. Lawler's position is a new role created at eBay.co.uk to develop its customer strategy and drive growth in eBay's retail brand business, according to the company's announcement. Best Buy Launches Best Buy Mobile in 5-Star Stores in China

Best Buy announced Tuesday it's expanding the Best Buy Mobile brand and store-within-a-store concept into 14 five-star stores throughout Nanjing, China, this summer. The expansion of Best Buy Mobile into the Chinese market is the first evolution of Global Connect, a partnership that was formed in November 2011 between Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse. Smartphones Will Influence $689 Billion in Retail Store Sales by 2016

Smartphones currently influence 5.1 percent of annual retail store sales, translating into $159 billion in forecasted sales for 2012, according to new Deloitte research. For the first time in the industry, the in-depth study measures the "mobile influence factor," or impact of smartphones on in-store sales. The mobile influence factor captures the in-store sales driven by consumers' store-related smartphone activity such as product research, price comparison or other mobile application use.

Dollar General to sell $450 million in senior debt

Goodlettsville, Tenn. -- Dollar General Corp. said Wednesday it is offering $450 million in senior notes due in 2017. The retailer said it plans to use the proceeds, along with cash on hand and possible other borrowings, to redeem its outstanding senior unsubordinated notes. Citigroup, Goldman, Sachs & Co. and KKR are serving as joint book running managers for the offering. BofA Merrill Lynch, Barclays, J.P. Morgan, Wells Fargo Securities, Fifth Third Securities, HSBC, KeyBanc Capital Markets, and US Bancorp are co-managers.
