Small Businesses Pace Retail Sales in June, Report Finds

A SpendingPulse report released by MasterCard Advisors, the professional services arm of MasterCard, in partnership with Wells Fargo, found that June spending at small retailers increased 8 percent compared to June 2011. This was higher than the overall U.S. retail growth rate of 6.9 percent. The June report also found that sales growth at small retailers has now outperformed growth of overall retail sales for nine consecutive months, since October 2011.

Best Buy plans to hire 500 new Geek Squad staffers. The move comes some two weeks after the retailer said it would lay off 600 existing workers in the tech support arm of its business as it looked to focus the group less on basic installation services and more on remote tech consulting.
