Wal-Mart Gets Approval From Chinese Regulators for E-Commerce Deal

Wal-Mart has received conditional approval from Beijing to acquire a majority stake in a Chinese e-commerce company. Wal-Mart will increase its stake in the Yihaodian holding company to approximately 51 percent, from a little more than 17 percent. Yihaodian has been in business for less than four years. It sells more than 180,000 products ranging from groceries to electronics to clothing. Wal-Mart is seeking more access to Chinese consumers, who are increasingly shopping online. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

How do you measure the reputation of a brand in social media? According to Yomego, a social media agency based in the U.K., you first have to measure the "reach" of a brand, which is the "noise" that's being generated in social spaces, or how much the brand is being mentioned. Then Yomego says you have to measure the "popularity" of a brand, which is actually the positive satisfaction level of all that noise. What follows is a list of the U.S. retail industry companies that had the best social media reputation in 2011, according to Yomego.
