Same-store sales fell 26.1 percent in the latest quarter, while analysts had expected a decrease of 17.9 percent.

Northern Tool Buying Sportsman's Guide, Golf Warehouse in $215 Million Deal

Burnsville, Minn.-based Northern Tool + Equipment said it's acquiring The Sportsman's Guide, a catalog supplier of outdoor goods based in South St. Paul, Minn. It's also purchasing The Golf Warehouse, an online golf equipment retailer based in Wichita, Kan. Together, the deals are worth $215 million, Northern Tool officials said Thursday, Nov. 8. The deals will transform family-owned Northern Tool and give it nearly $1.5 billion in annual sales. The deal still must be approved by antitrust officials.

eBay Private Promotion Runs Into a Glitch

Some eBay sellers who received an invitation to a private promotion this week were frustrated in their attempts to take advantage of the sale, and an eBay spokesperson confirmed there was a glitch. eBay invited a select group of registered users to list up to 5,000 fixed-price listings and pay no listing fees. The eBay sale kicked off on Thursday, Nov. 8, but some users who received the invitation said eBay was charging them to list.

Macy's Adds Black Friday Features to Mobile App

Macy's is adding Black Friday-themed enhancements to its mobile app, available beginning Nov. 15. Shoppers with the Macy's app on their Apple iOS devices will be able to view in-store Black Friday specials, create personal shopping lists and receive "push" notifications with details on previously unadvertised specials. Through the app, the retailer will also provide information on store-specific specials and help shoppers navigate by sending the department name and floor for the specials in each store.
