You heard it here first: 2013 will be the year of Tory Burch. On Jan. 1, the fashion mogul's company made two big announcements, both of which will renew speculation of an impending IPO that could land the 46-year-old on the Forbes 400. The board at Tory Burch's eponymous brand and the designer's ex-husband Chris Burch have settled "all pending legal claims," per a statement, putting an end to an increasingly nasty and public battle of lawsuits and counterclaims.
An annual holiday e-retail satisfaction report produced by analytic's firm ForeSee showed considerable improvement at Target this year following a challening 2011. Amazon.com, LLBean.com and QVC.com were the top three retailers on ForeSee’s Annual...
Creating a retail empire off an electronics brand worked for Apple. Perhaps it can do the same for Polaroid. This year, Polaroid will launch at least 10 experimental retail locations that will give people the chance to take images from their digital devices and turn them into keepsakes. A U.S. judge on Wednesday rejected part of Apple's lawsuit against Amazon.com's use of the term App Store, ruling Apple cannot bring a false advertising claim against the online retailer. Apple leveled other claims against Amazon, including trademark infringement. An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment, and an Amazon representative couldn't be reached immediately.
Jan. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Bloomberg's Sheila Dharmarajan reports that estimates for December same-store sales show what could be a slump for the retail sector from the holiday shopping season dragging into 2
Apple is preparing to take a serious run at the Japanese e-book market. The company is negotiating deals with a handful of Japanese publishers to supply a local version of its iBookstore with their e-book catalogs. Sources with knowledge of the situation tell AllThingsD that Kodansha, Shogakukan and Kadokawa are among the publishing houses to whom Apple is talking. Conversations are said to be going well, and the company expects to have agreements hammered out soon.
I've been an enthusiastic and vocal supporter of Penney's "no sale" strategy for almost a year now, sticking with the brand even as its marketing fell on deaf ears with consumers and investors. The stock was up last month and its website was reportedly a favorite visit during the holidays, but there's every reason to expect it will report dismal fourth quarter results (expertly obfuscated with stats on eyeballs, awareness and whatever). I now believe the company is doomed. We should stop holding our collective breath waiting for success, and start looking for lessons to learn from its failure.
