Clothing Shop is Tailored to Digital Age

In the heart of Silicon Valley, Amazon.com veterans are trying to disrupt the experience of shopping in a store. Former Amazon supply chain Vice President Nadia Shouraboura, who launched the Hointer Inc. clothing company in Seattle last year, is set to open a store in Palo Alto, Calif., on May 1. But there's a digital twist: The new store, like all Hointer shops, will have almost no salespeople. It will also change its prices dynamically to prevent the increasingly common practice of consumers browsing in stores, only to buy from online retailers who offer the same goods for less.

RueLaLa CEO Steps Down, President Takes Over

The CEO of online, members- and invitation-only shopping site RueLaLa, which features private sale events from brands including Fendi, James Perse and Kate Spade, has left the company, Mass High Tech has learned. Ben Fischman, who joined Boston-based Retail Convergence Inc. in 2001 and led the launch of RueLaLa and acquisition of SmartBargains Inc. in April 2008, stepped down from his role as CEO at the company. Steven Davis, RueLaLa's president, is taking over as CEO. Employees were told of Fischman's departure and change in leadership on Monday afternoon.

Fab is continuing to evolve from a flash-sales site into something bigger โ€” as its founders hope, the world's largest store for design. The startup, which pivoted from a flash-sales site aimed at gay men two years ago, held a presentation in New York Monday night to chronicle its progress and outline its larger vision. It's heading offline, opening its first store in Hamburg, Germany. There, shoppers will be able to order and even design their own furniture, something Fab is now offering on its website as well.
