NRF Criticizes Bangladesh Safety Accord

The National Retail Federation on Wednesday criticized a fire-and-building safety agreement for Bangladesh, led by labor groups such as Europe's IndustriALL. "While the proposal put forth by the labor unions addresses a number of shared concerns, the accord veers away from commonsense solutions and seeks to advance a narrow agenda driven by special interests," NRF CEO Matthew Shay said in a statement. Wednesday was the deadline for retailers to decide whether to sign the agreement, which is designed to prevent a repeat of another disaster in Bangladesh's garment industry.


Campaign Mocks A&F CEO by Donating Brand's Clothes to Homeless

An online campaign is attempting to "rebrand" Abercrombie & Fitch by donating the company's clothes to the homeless, after an author alleged that company CEO Mike Jeffries "doesn't want larger people shopping in his store." The comments, made by Robin Lewis, were included in a Business Insider article published earlier this month. The piece also referenced, and breathed new life into, a 2006 Salon article in which Jeffries admits that A&F markets to "cool kids," while excluding those who are unattractive or overweight.
