Staples to complete acquisition of Corporate Express Australia

A subsidiary of Staples now controls about 92% of the shares in Corporate Express Australia and the office supply chain said Monday that the acquisition would be completed later this summer.In March, Staples Australia offered $5.60 per share, or more than $350 million, for outstanding shares of the company. At the time it had more than 58% of shares.The closing for the offer is July 26 and the acquisition is expected to close within six weeks of that date.

More than 450,000 people filed new claims for unemployment benefits last week, as joblessness continued to hamper the U.S. economy and other new economic indicators reflected mixed signs about the recovery. The number of people filing new unemployment claims has fluctuated between 450,000 and 500,000 a week since January, on a seasonally adjusted basis. New Specialty Store Linens & More for Less to Debut

Linens & More for Less, a new retailer based in Brookfield, Ohio, is set to debut its first store on July 23 in Warren, Ohio, according to the Dayton Business Journal. Fred Mershad, the former CEO of Elder-Beerman Stores Co., will serve as the companys CEO.
