Borders to sell Paperchase unit to pay down debt

Borders Group Inc. said Tuesday it will sell its Paperchase Products Ltd. stationery subsidiary to British private equity firm Primary Capital Ltd. for $31 million in order to reduce the retailer’s debt load.The move is Borders latest salvo in its ongoing effort to cut costs and improve profitability since financier Bennett LeBow invested $25 million in the struggling chain in May, becoming the company's largest shareholder, chairman and CEO.Borders said it will continue to buy and carry Paperchase products in its U.S. stores. eBay Hit with $3.8 Billion Lawsuit over Patent Claim

XPRT Ventures has sued eBay for $3.8 billion, asserting trade secret theft and patent infringement claims with respect to six XPRT patents. XPRT asserts eBay unfairly stole the idea and method of payment used in eBay's PayPal and similar electronic payment systems. Mobile Alerts Effective at Driving Young Women Into Stores

Location-based mobile alerts have led a third of women 18 to 34 to visit a store, according to a recent survey. And 27 percent of that demographic said that mobile messages have impacted their decision to buy in a physical store. The poll, conducted from May 17 to May 19, surveyed 2,046 U.S. adults 18 and older, including 1,710 who own a cell phone and/or a smartphone. It was conducted by Harris Interactive and commissioned by location-based ad company Placecast. It studied opt-in mobile marketing messages only.
