Danbury furnishings manufacturer-retailer Ethan Allen Inc. is launching an online catalog to penetrate deeper into the commercial and hospitality markets, its CEO says. CEO Farooq Kathwari said ethanallencontract.com features many of the items in the 180-page printed catalog for its newly formed Ethan Allen Contract division. Like its residential furnishings-décor division, Ethan Allen Contract offers hospitality and commercial clients product design, interior design, product customization, sourcing, manufacturing, delivery, and installation.

Target to Expand In-Store Bullseye Mobile Centers

— Target announced it will expand the number of stores offering in-store wireless shopping stations beginning August 15, with plans to roll out the mobile centers to the majority of stores by mid-2011. Target operates Bullseye Mobile centers in partnership with RadioShack. The stations allow guests to purchase mobile phones and accessories as well as activate contracts from three top US carriers.

Forever 21 has opened a huge flagship in Fashion Show mall in Las Vegas, taking over a space leased, but never occupied by, Lord & Taylor, when the shopping mall expanded in 2002. The bi-level, 126,000-sq.-ft. store has 36 cash registers and 132 fitting rooms, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Despite Sliding Consumer Confidence, Americans Still Spending

The Conference Board reported Tuesday morning that consumer confidence declined in July for the second straight month. And yet there are signs that back-to-school shopping isn't going to be a disaster. In the most recent week, sales rose 0.6 percent from the week before and were up 3.8 percent from the year before. Sales have risen from the week before in six of the last nine weeks; and over the past two months, weekly sales have been up between 2.5 percent and 4.2 percent from the year before.
