HomeGoods to open its first Manhattan store

Winick Realty Group announced that HomeGoods has signed on for its first Manhattan location.The discount home-furnishings retailer will occupy 5,732 sq. ft. on the ground floor and 20,671 sq. ft. of retail space on the lower level in the new development called Columbus Square. It is located at 795 Columbus Avenue, between 98th and 99th Streets.The new HomeGoods store is expected to open in the first quarter of next year.

Target Reports a 3.8% Sales Gain in July 2010

Target reported net sales of USD 4.585 billion for the four weeks ended July 31, 2010, a 3.8% increase over numbers reported for the same period in 2009. Comparable-store sales (comps) grew 2.0%. Traffic was referenced as 'strong.' Apparel comps were above the company average, whereas relatively soft performance was cited for electronics, video games, music, and movies. Fiscal year-to-date sales increased 4.7% to USD 30.284 billion. Comps grew 2.2%. On August 5, 2010, Target operated 1,743 stores in 49 states.

Big Lots Q2 2010 Sales Up 5.7%

Sales for the quarter increased 5.7% to USD 1.13 billion while year-to-date (YTD) sales increased 7% to USD 2.35 billion. Comparable store sales (for stores open at least two years) increased 3.8% and 4.9% for Q2 and YTD 2010, respectively.

Gap Reports July 2010 Comps Up 1%

Comps for Gap North America declined 6% compared to a decline of 9% in the prior year. Comps for Banana Republic North America increased 2% compared to a decline of 7% in the prior year. Old Navy North America reported positive 6% comps as compared to a negative 8% in the prior year. Comps for the international markets increased 3% as compared to a decline of 4% in the prior year.
