GNC Q2 profit leaps 42.5%

General Nutrition Centers reported Tuesday that net income for the second quarter ended June 30 was $25.6 million, compared with net income of $18 million for the year-ago period. The nutrition retailer said its second quarter 2009 financial performance was negatively impacted by the May 2009 Hydroxycut product recall.Consolidated revenue for the quarter rose 5.4%, to $455.9 million. Edwin Watts acquires Double Eagle Golf

Edwin Watts Golf Shops said Monday it has acquired Double Eagle Golf in Cordova, Tenn. The 11,800-sq.-ft. will be converted to the Edwin Watts banner. This announcement follows Edwin Watts’ multi-year agreement with Sears to open 12 “store-within-a-store” retail locations inside Sears stores nationwide. The retailer also recently acquired five retail stores through Southern Golf Partners.Edwin Watts Golf Shops currently operates about 70 retail stores.

A.C. Moore loss widens in second quarter

Arts-and-crafts retailer A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts reported Tuesday a loss of $9.7 million in the second quarter, compared with a loss of $8.1 million in the year-ago period. Fossil Q2 profit more than triples

Fossil said Tuesday its second-quarter profit more than tripled, smashing analysts' expectations, as the watch and fashion-accessories retailer posted record results on big sales gains.Fossil reported a profit of $54.5 million, up from $16.6 million a year earlier. Serge succeeds Kumar Kandaswamy, who left eBay in March to become Director of Open API Platform Business at Best Buy. Gonzales joined eBay in 2003 and is returning to the U.S. after a 3-year assignment at Marktplaats, an eBay-owned Classifieds site in the Netherlands. Retail Container Traffic Forecasted to be Up 15% in 2010
