Cache profit edges up in Q2

Specialty womenโ€™s apparel retailer Cache reported Thursday that profit for the quarter ended July 3 edged up to $897,000, compared with $845,000 in the year-ago period. Sales dipped 0.5% to $56.6 million, from $56.9 million. Same-store sales increased 5.1%.During the second quarter, Cache opened one new store and closed two stores, ending the period with 284 stores in operation. For the remainder of fiscal 2010, the mall-based retailer said it plans to open two additional new stores and close two additional stores, ending the year with 284 locations and 570,000 sq. ft. in operation.

American Apparel will miss filing deadline

Yankee Candle narrows loss in Q2

Yankee Holding Corp. and The Yankee Candle Co. reported Thursday that it narrowed its loss in the quarter ended July 3 to $10.2 million, compared with a loss of $12.5 million in the year-ago period. Retail sales for the second quarter increased 5.2% to $71.7 million.Same-store sales dropped 3.1%.The Yankee Candle Co. operates 503 stores in 43 states, as well as sells its products through a North American wholesale customer network of approximately 20,700 store locations.

Kohl's records 14% rise in Q2 profit

Kohl's Corp. reported Thursday that profit for the second quarter ended July 31 rose to $260 million, from $229 million in the prior year.
