Consumer electronics retailer Conn's said Thursday that its second-quarter net income fell by more than two-thirds to $1.7 million, from net income of $5.2 million a year earlier. The company cited falling sales for the poor performance.Revenue fell 7% to $213.7 million, from $230.4 million in the year-ago period. Sales beat analysts’ expectations of $207.5 million.Same-store sales fell 6.4% during the quarter.Conn's operates 76 stores in the United States, mostly in Texas.
Best Buy Co. announced Thursday that it has launched a video-game trade-in service in nearly 600 stores.With the new service, consumers can now bring their previously played video games into Best Buy and trade them for an instant Best Buy gift card to use for purchasing anything in the store, including any game or gaming accessory. Soon, they will be able to purchase a pre-owned game as well, the company reported.
Target, with 1,743 stores in 49 states, will announce "My TargetWeekly," a fully customizable version of its weekly ad. The ad now appears on Target.com, where it draws more than 1.2 million visitors weekly, and in Sunday newspapers, where it is seen by 100 million consumers each week.
