CVS/pharmacy pays $77.6M settlement to DEA

CVS/pharmacy reached an agreement with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Attorneys Offices to pay $77.6 million for failing to properly monitor the sales of pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient in the making of crystal meth. CVS/pharmacy will pay $75 million in civil penalties and $2.6 million in profit forfeitures, and agrees to comply with laws monitoring the sale of pseudoephedrine, according to a statement from the company. Charming Shoppes said Thursday that James P. Fogarty has stepped down as the company's CEO and has resigned from its board of directors.Anthony M. North Face aims to corral customers with geo-fencing test

Outdoor apparel and equipment retailer The North Face has rolled out a program that uses SMS text technology from Placecast to reach out to shoppers when they land within 1.5 miles of one of the chain's 31 stores. Automatic check-in messages are sent to the cell phones of customers who have opted in to the program. Merchants including American Eagle and REI have launched smaller tests of the service, but North Face is one of the first to debut a national program.
