Donna Karan Debuts Urban Zen Store in Los Angeles

New York-based Donna Karan Intl. Inc. opened a fashion and home storeโ€”dubbed Urban Zenโ€”in Los Angeles' West Hollywood neighborhood on Oct. 17, according to the Los Angeles Times. Two separate buildings offer the designerโ€™s furniture, clothing and accessories, while standout design elements include exposed ceiling beams, dark-stained floors and unique decoratives. Also on site is a third building that houses a full private kitchen, as well as a garden. Wal-Martโ€™s Massmart acquisition faces South Africa court appeal

Cape Town, South Africa -- A Thursday report by Bloomberg said that South Africaโ€™s Competition Appeal Court began hearing a government lawsuit filed to compel regulators to review a decision allowing Wal-Mart Stores to acquire 51% interest in Massmart Holdings Ltd. The Competition Tribunal ruled on May 31 that Wal-Mart could proceed with the deal on condition no jobs are cut for two years and the companies set up a $12.4 million fund to assist local suppliers and manufacturers. The government objected, saying the conditions were inadequate to protect the economy and prevent a surge in imports undermining manufacturing

Limited Brands to up capex by 39%

Columbus, Ohio -- Limited Brands told investors Wednesday that it would up its capital spending to $590 million next year, a 39% increase over the $425 million it will spend this year and double what the retailer spent in 2009 and 2010. Limited CFO Stuart Burgdoerfer, in his address at the companyโ€™s annual investor update meeting in New York City, said that most of the increase will be used to expand or remodel Victoria's Secret stores in the United States. Tractor Supply profit up 43% in Q3

Brentwood, Tenn. -- Tractor Supply Co. reported Wednesday that profit for the third-quarter surged 43% to $42.7 million, compared with $29.9 million in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 18% to $977.8 million, credited partly to a boost in emergency supplies as Hurricane Irene hit the East Coast in August, and surpassing Wall Streetโ€™s expected $931.6 million in revenue. Same-store sales rose 11.5%.
