The owner of Price Chopper supermarkets is suing the operator of ShopRite after searches for “Price Chopper” on Google and other search engines turned up ads for ShopRite. Price Chopper’s parent, Golub Corp., filed the action late last week in U.S. District Court in Albany.

Camp Hill, Pa. -- Rite Aid Corp. reported Thursday that same-store sales increased 2.9% in October, boosted by a 3.6% surge in pharmacy same-store sales. Front-end same-store sales edged up 1.3%. Total drugstore sales for the four-week period increased 2.8% to $1.96 billion compared to $1.91 billion for the same period last year.

New York City -- Wal-Mart Stores is closing its U.S. apparel office in New York City as it shifts its focus from trendier fashions to more basic clothing. News of the move was first reported by Women’s Wear Daily and Reuters. The office, opened in 2009 in the heart of Manhattan’s Fashion District, reflected the chain’s desire at the time to puts a more stylish and hip spin on its apparel offerings. The office’s functions, which include product development and buying, will be transferred to Wal-Mart’s headquarters in Bentonville, Ark. The move is expected to be completed by Feb.

Lumber Liquidators Holdings Inc., owner of the national hardwood flooring chain, announced Thursday that profits jumped 57.2 percent for the third quarter. The Toano retailer’s net income reached $6.7 million, or 24 cents per share, for the quarter ended Sept. 30. That’s up from $4.3 million, or 15 cents per share, for the same period last year.

Best Buy announced that it will waive minimum purchase limitations and offer free shipping on its complete inventory of 400,000 website items from Nov. 1 through Dec. 27.

Vitamin Shoppe reported that net income for the quarter ended Sept. 24 rose to $11.9 million compared with $7.2 million for the same period last year.  Sales increased 11.5 percent to $208.9 million from $187.4 million last year.

Dallas -- SRS Real Estate Partners said that Dollar Tree/Deal$ has leased four new retail spaces, all in New York. The company leased 12,000 sq. ft. in Maspeth, N.Y.; 12,000 sq. ft. in Brooklyn; 10,250 sq. ft. in Sunnyside; and 9,341 sq. ft. on Broadway in New York City.

Brown Shoe said it's finalized the sale of its AND 1 men’s performance and lifestyle brand to Galaxy International for $55 million. The AND 1 brand was part of the $145 million American Sporting Goods acquisition that Brown completed last February in a move to expand its reach into the fitness category.
