Price Chopper Sues ShopRite Over Search Engine Dispute

The owner of Price Chopper supermarkets is suing the operator of ShopRite after searches for โ€œPrice Chopperโ€ on Google and other search engines turned up ads for ShopRite. Price Chopperโ€™s parent, Golub Corp., filed the action late last week in U.S. District Court in Albany.

Rite Aid same-store sales up 2.9% in October

Camp Hill, Pa. -- Rite Aid Corp. reported Thursday that same-store sales increased 2.9% in October, boosted by a 3.6% surge in pharmacy same-store sales. Front-end same-store sales edged up 1.3%. Total drugstore sales for the four-week period increased 2.8% to $1.96 billion compared to $1.91 billion for the same period last year.

Walmart to close apparel office in NYC

New York City -- Wal-Mart Stores is closing its U.S. apparel office in New York City as it shifts its focus from trendier fashions to more basic clothing. News of the move was first reported by Womenโ€™s Wear Daily and Reuters. The office, opened in 2009 in the heart of Manhattanโ€™s Fashion District, reflected the chainโ€™s desire at the time to puts a more stylish and hip spin on its apparel offerings. The officeโ€™s functions, which include product development and buying, will be transferred to Wal-Martโ€™s headquarters in Bentonville, Ark. The move is expected to be completed by Feb.

Lumber Liquidators' third-quarter earnings up 57%

Lumber Liquidators Holdings Inc., owner of the national hardwood flooring chain, announced Thursday that profits jumped 57.2 percent for the third quarter. The Toano retailerโ€™s net income reached $6.7 million, or 24 cents per share, for the quarter ended Sept. 30. Thatโ€™s up from $4.3 million, or 15 cents per share, for the same period last year.
