Kirklandโ€™s Q3 profit falls 48%, but beats expectations

Nashville, Tenn. -- Kirklandโ€™s net profit in its fiscal third quarter as operating expenses and cost of sales rose, and same-store sales declined. But its results still beat Wall Street's expectations. The company earned $1.2 million, compared with $2.3 million a year earlier. Operating expenses rose 8% to $31.3 million, while the company's cost of sales rose 7% to $60.9 million. Sales rose 5% to $97.1 million, from $92.7 million. Same-store sales were down 3.6%.

Phoenix -- PetSmart Inc. reported Thursday that net income for the quarter ended Oct. 30 rose 22% to $56.2 million, from $45.6 million a year earlier. Revenue rose nearly 8% to $1.5 billion from $1.4 billion, just beating Wall Streetโ€™s expected $1.49 billion in revenue. Same-store sales increased 6.1%.

Chesapeake, Va. -- Dollar Tree reported Thursday that profit for the third quarter rose 12.1% to $104.5 million, from $93.2 million a year earlier. Etsy Launches iPhone App to Help Shoppers and Sellers on the Go

Etsy launched a mobile app for shoppers. Spokesperson Adam Brown said Etsy for the iPhone is designed to help shoppers find unique gifts whether they're in front of their computer, iPad or phone - at work, home or anywhere in-between. Brown said the tool would be helpful for Etsy sellers as well. Sellers will be able to use the app to view and manage shop orders, make quick updates to their shop, and receive alerts when a buyer makes a purchase.
