Spartanburg council approves Amazon facility

Spartanburg County Council voted unanimously Friday to offer incentives to bring mega online retailer Amazon.com to the area. Amazon would build a new facility on or along a 200-plus acre site near John Dodd Road, investing around $50 million and creating 390 jobs, according to the ordinance. Councilman David Britt, the councilโ€™s Economic Recruitment and Development Committee chairman, said the agreement includes economic incentives and a fee-in-lieu of taxes agreement from the county for the company. Spartanburg County Council passed the first and second ordinances about โ€œProject 300โ€ before revealing Amazon as the company during a public hearing Nov.

Loweโ€™s to open new customer support center in New Mexico

Mooresville, N.C. -- Loweโ€™s said Thursday it will open a new Customer Support Center in Albuquerque, N.M., in first quarter 2012. The center is estimated to create 250 jobs by March and a total of 600 jobs by the end of 2013. Loweโ€™s said it plans to invest more than $15 million to renovate leased space in a 65,000-sq.-ft. building which, when complete, will provide multiple support functions including customer care, store support, internet sales support and repair services for customers. The new center is intended to complement the companyโ€™s existing Customer Support Center in Wilkesboro, N.C.
