GameStop holiday sales nearly flat

Grapevine, Texas -- GameStop Corp. on Monday reported nearly flat sales for the nine-week holiday period that ended on Dec. 31. Total sales were $3.02 million, or about the same as last year. Same-store sales slipped 0.3%. The company backed its fourth-quarter and full-year earnings guidance. Video game software sales were up nearly 10% to $1.47 billion, but sales of game consoles and other hardware fell. Liz Claiborne CFO moves to Discovery Communications

New York City -- Discovery Communications said Tuesday that Liz Claiborne Inc. CFO Andrew Warren is joining the company as finance chief. Warren will succeed Brad Singer, who said last year he would depart Discovery at the end of March. Liz Claiborne recently disclosed that Warren was leaving the company, saying he was pursuing an opportunity "in the media industry."

American Apparel to close Fort Deposit plant May 31; 175 employees affected

The company produces military uniforms and will consolidate the Fort Deposit plant with the Selma plant. The Montgomery Advertiser reports about 175 employees will lose their jobs in the consolidation, which is being blamed on a reduction in opportunities in the military market. The Fort Deposit plant will close May 31. The impacted employees will be offered positions in Selma as they become available. American Apparel, Inc. employs 1,300 people in Alabama.
