Amazon has reached an agreement with the Indiana government to begin collecting sales taxes on purchases shipped to that state, marking the latest twist in the retail giant's often contentious relations with state governments over tax issues. Under the agreement, Amazon committed to begin collecting Indiana sales taxes in 2014, a move that the state's Department of Revenue estimates would generate $20 million to $25 million in annual revenue that currently goes uncollected. The deal does not involve any other companies. Indiana estimates the total volume of uncollected revenue from online sales taxes at about $75 million each year.
Luxury retailer Sephora has deployed a mobile point-of-sale solution in a large number of its U.S. stores using software from Agilysys and RedIron on Apple iPod touch devices. "We wanted a solution that seamlessly integrates and extends our SAP POS system via a mobile POS customer-engagement experience," said Sephora vice president of retail store systems Shah Nagree in a statement.

West Virginia University is suing a Morgantown apparel company that it claims violated the school's trademarks. The lawsuit alleges that T-shirts sold by Fastees contain WVU's trademarks or "confusingly similar" imitations. It also claims Internet domain names registered by Fastees violate the trademarks. The Dominion Post reports that WVU filed the lawsuit last week in federal court. Kevin Ford, managing member of Miva-Man, declined to comment to the newspaper until he spoke to his lawyer.
