Gary Schoenfeld, who served as CEO of Pacific Sunwear of California (PacSun) since 2009, is leaving the company and being replaced by James Gulmi on an interim basis. No reason was given for Schoenfeld’s departure. Gulmi, who has also been named to PacSun’s board, served as the CFO of footwear retailer Genesco Inc. from 1996 to 2015.
In September 2016, PacSun exited bankruptcy after reducing both its debt and store count. At that time, it was acquired by Golden Gate Capital.
“We're grateful to Gary Schoenfeld for his significant contributions to PacSun over the past eight years, including steering PacSun through a successful restructuring in only five months,” the retailer said in an emailed statement to SBG Media. “Now, as a stronger and more competitive company, PacSun is embarking on its next chapter of growth.”
